For my grandfather – Russell Bain

My grandfather Russell Bain was in the Canadian Army for the duration of the war. Like many men who fought, he did not talk much about the war. I do know that he was in The Netherlands for the liberation, and that he drove a tank. I also know that he returned there in 1980 for the anniversary. I can only imagine that must have been an emotional trip. He was one of the lucky men who got to return home. Shortly after returning to Montreal, he married his high school sweetheart, my grandmother, Mavis Barwick.
I am proud to have planted these tulips in commemoration of his bravery and of the sacrifices of all who fought in the war.
